Suncoast Chess Winter Tournament - Feb 2017

Thanks everyone for participating in our Winter tournament.  We set a new attendance record, with a total of 81 players!  Thanks in large part to Ashton's new club, as well as increased attendance from other schools as well.

We loved seeing the higher numbers of players.  It makes for a more exciting and worthy tournament.  We're sorry about the delays, in part from late arriving add-ons, logistics of the larger numbers, and a late revision to our system to combine play between our two smallest sections, high school and middle school.

Team results (top 3 awarded plaques):

  • 1st place:  Epiphany Cathedral School, Venice
  • 2nd place:  Pine View School, Osprey
  • 3rd place:  Phillippi Shores Elementary, Sarasota
  • 4th place:  Booker Middle School, Sarasota
  • 5th place:  Ashton Elementary, Sarasota

Chess Tournament for Charity at Riverview - Jan 2016

Our friends at the Riverview High School Chess Club had a tournament on Saturday, January 30 (2016).  Thank you to the organizers and participants for a very nice tournament.  The bracket style tournament included consolation rounds so that everyone got in a few games.

Congratulations to first place winner Carlos Gimon, runner-up Dan Hersey, and third place finisher from Sarasota High School (we didn't catch your name - please contact us).  We hope you will all join us for the next Suncoast Chess tournament coming up soon.
