Thank you to all of our participants for a great afternoon of chess!

We had a total of 60 participants from 18 different schools, ranging from kindergarten thru 9th grade. There was some tough competition, with no one coming away undefeated. We had several tie scores in each section, so the rankings came down to tiebreak calculations which basically assess the strength of the opponents that each player faced throughout the tournament. If one player had 4 wins against opponents that were strong players and another had 4 wins against weaker opponents, the one with the tougher opponents got a higher tiebreak score. More detail about tiebreaks here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tie-breaking_in_Swiss-system_tournaments .
Congratulations to everyone for their spirit and sportsmanship. We especially congratulate Southside Elementary for the large turnout from their new club and narrowly beating Phillippi Shores for the first place team prize. Venice Christian School continued to have a wonderful team and picked up third place.
Special thanks to Pine View for providing us with a great tournament venue.
We look forward to seeing you all again at our next tournament at the end of January 2014.
