Suncoast Chess Winter 2020 Tourney CANCELLED

Our Winter tournament which had been planned for early February has been CANCELLED.

We are sorry for any inconvenience and hope to see you at another event hosted by us or our friends at the Sarasota Chess Club https://www.facebook.com/groups/1952412721679075.

Although for years we have had great turnouts, more recently there has been a dropoff in the number of active elementary and middle school clubs and this has led to fewer participants and less interscholastic competition.

Although we have always been a volunteer non-profit organization, we have not had official 501c3 status since it is not necessary for such a small group.  Unfortunately the lack of 501c3 status has hampered our ability to get the word out to many kids in our area since schools do not allow flyer placements on their premises without it.  We will work on obtaining the necessary paperwork and hopefully soon be able to reach more kids in our area.  We hope to be back in action for a Spring Tournament in early May.

In the meantime, if you have a UCSF membership, we recommend high level players participate in tournaments held monthly in Sarasota at the Inbetween Bridge Club, hosted by Michael Sperber, or tournaments at the St Petersburg Chess Club or others in Tampa or Orlando.  All level players, including complete beginners, are welcome to come play informal games at the Gulf Gate library on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month, 12:00-4:30pm.

Dates:
